The same box also runs door controller software. Blue Iris has a web app (which I've had mixed results with) for remote monitoring, but frankly I just RDP into the box if necessary. You can probably find simpler or more robust systems off the shelf, but this was a semi-fun project and would theoretically suit your needs. It's set to only record motion and on a 4TB RAID10 recording drive I've barely touched it's capacity over a few months time. It can hit the CPU pretty hard if you've got a lot recording at once, but I'm able to run those 8 cameras with some wiggle room on a i5-4430. Blue Iris is pretty cheap as far as software goes and it does the job that I need. They're all running separate from the rest of the building network on their own POE switch. ![]() It works great and it's fairly cost effective, whole project ran under $1000 since I pieced the recording box together. I just did a setup using 8 Hikvision 1080p POE cameras running to a box I threw together running Blue Iris camera software. ![]() I would love to see what else people are using.ĮDIT: I forgot to mention that for remote viewing on smart devices, we use the IP Cam Viewer app, which is a 3rd party app that works with an insane number of makes/models of cameras, DVRs and NVRs. I looked into Synology but they only support 2 models of GeoVision cameras (according to their website). It integrates into the viewing software at corporate for live feeds but the recorded stuff is stored onsite. We also rented a portion of a warehouse temporarily about 5 miles away and I setup 4 IP cameras and a dell desktop there with the same nvr software and connected it to the internet and vpn. I have to upgrade it soon, as it has been going for almost 5 years. The DVR/NVR software is free with the cameras. I have added about 10 IP (POE) cameras that don't require any card, just a network connection. We have a 16 channel card for analog cameras (that were here as part of a much older system) and I built a whitebox with several 3TB drives. Automatically recycles the HD space based on rule engine. Stores recorded videos to hard drive, both local or network, automatic data migration from new capture directory to stored directories. Webcast using MPEG ActiveX, JAVA, or Windows Media. Use the built-in Web server, or post to a Web site. Receive alerts via loudspeaker, e-mail, instant messaging, or phone. Use motion detection, audio detection, or capture continuously. ![]() Watch your door for mail, packages or visitors. Keep an eye on your home, place of business, cars, and valuables watch your pets or your kids monitor your nanny, babysitter, or employees. Version 5 Video Security and Monitoring Software - full version by Perspective Software is a Surveillance, Monitoring and Video Capture software supporting up to 64 cameras (Webcams, camcorders, network IP cams, analog cards, or your PC desktop).Ĭaptures JPEG snapshots or movies in standard AVI, advanced DVR, or leading-edge Windows Media file formats.
